Defining The System Scope
This is the first chapter

Introduction
  • New systems come in all shapes and sizes, from an entire operating system (not our field) to a simple To-Do list. So the first thing to do is get an idea of what the system must do, this is what we call the project scope.
  • Plenty of systems implementations run into problems. They go in late, they run over budget, or they simply fail to meet the users needs.
  • A lot of systems implementations run relatively smoothly, and the difference is often in the planning.

Scope of this article

Little River Software writes systems, so we limit the scope of the article to discussing a System development project, but many of the concepts are readily transferable to other projects, from making a sandwich for one, to building a house, or getting to the moon. All projects are inherently similar in outline, its just an awful lot easier to control/manage the process and the complexities of making lunch than it is to manage the process of building a moon ready transport system.
